the Spanish Society for Iranian Studies rejects and condemns the systematic repression of the Iranian regime against women and against the people who participate and have participated in the protests after the death under police custody of Mahsa Amini, last September, and which have recently turned into a generalized protest against the regime.

The repression against women has extended to protesters, journalists, media professionals, political dissidents, artists, writers, and human rights defenders. We subscribe and support the UN statement denouncing that “the Iranian government would better serve its own interests and those of its people by listening to their grievances and undertaking the legal and political reforms necessary to ensure respect for diversity of opinions, the rights to freedom of expression and assembly, and full respect and protection of women’s rights in all areas of life”, in the words of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
